300 years ago the Chapel Royal Organist, Henry Purcell, and the Poet Laureate John Dryden wrote odes and anthems to mark events in the life of their royal patrons.
This year the current holders of their posts, Andrew Gant and Andrew Motion, have been asked to write a work to mark the Golden Jubilee of Her Majesty the Queen.
The HYMN FOR THE GOLDEN JUBILEE lasts about 9 minutes and is accessible to ordinary choirs.
Details and copies of the music may be obtained from:
Dr Andrew Gant, Chapel Royal, St James Palace, London S W 1, England
or Ms Val Withams, Choral Connections, 28 Wrights Lane, Great Missenden, Bucks HP16 0HL, England.
(I do not know the price and have no phone numbers)
O God our Father, to whom all human power is subject, bless thy servant, Queen Elizabeth, that she may fulfil worthily the offices of state. Grant that, revering thy holy Name and striving in all things to please thee, she may secure freedom, order and peace for all her people. This we ask through Jesus Christ, thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Ghost, One God, for ever and ever. Amen.
The Rev'd Dr. Peter Toon
Minister of Christ Church, Biddulph Moor,
England & Vice-President and Emissary-at-Large
of The Prayer Book Society of America
