A Prayer for the Anglican Primates

If you need a Collect for Sunday worship or in the intercessions in the daily office, you may care to use this:

"O Gracious Father, we humbly beseech thee for thy holy Catholic Church and in particular for that jurisdiction of the same known as the Anglican Communion; that thou wouldest be pleased to fill it with all truth, in all peace. Where it is corrupt, purify it; where it is in error, direct it; where in any thing it is amiss, reform it. Where it is right, establish it; where it is in want, provide for it; where it is divided, reunite it. When its Primates meet on October 15-16 in London bless, direct and unite them in thy love, for the sake of him who died and rose again, and ever liveth to make intercession for us, Jesus Christ, thy Son our Lord. Amen."

(adapted from a prayer of Archbishop Laud)

The original Prayer from the Works of Laud I used as the dedication of my new, Sept 2003, book COMMON WORSHIP CONSIDERED (www.edgewaysbooks.com)
